What did not occur

Fifty four boxes
And a jar of ice
Sit in a silent line
Waiting for a brush of fingers
An eager rip of tape
Baiting with curious glances
An unheard tune
A thought unravelled
In a dishevelled heap
Of wrapping paper.
Fifty four boxes
And a jar of ice
Explode into the night
With oohs and aahs
As the lighthouse casts a spot
Among the shadows of the unknown
An unbelievable excitement
An unexpressed disappointment
Always a sense of gratitude
Or a childish fit.
Fifty four boxes
Fading away with time
In a black and white memory
A crackling picture
Melting away with the jar of ice
Puddles on the floor
Flooding the land
Rushing like a river
Away to the ocean
Lost, lost and utterly lost
In the deep sea
Nothing washes ashore.
Fifty four boxes
And a jar of ice
Never existed before.

Reality

My reality
Is fluttering
All around me
In bits
And pieces
Of the present
In moods
In moments
In faces
And thoughts
In places
On things
Spiralling about
Through the past
Those numbed regrets
And memories
With people
Both near
And dear
And strangers
And fears
Swimming past nostalgia
Like butterflies or fireflies
Chewing up childish laughters
Taking a dive
To the future
Of dreams
And hopes
And more fears
Covered in acceptance of inevitability
Racing through the uncertain tides
With determined strides
Wishing for an escape
My reality
Is a chaotic array
Of impossibilities

Keep spinning

And the world spun round in a dizzying haze
Spinning on and on on an axis tipped like a ballerina on drugs
Smoked like the broken humans outside that booming pub
In the midst of nowhere
The world spun round and round the burning sun
Seeping in the warmth, freezing when it was not
Around to sweat in the passion of hydrogen atoms mashing in a collosal explosion
And the world kept spinning with its sisters and brothers
Round and round and around the star that it knew would only grow
More powerful and older by the day till it was impossible for all within its radius to survive
It was only a matter of time before the Earth would shrivel up and die
Before the collosal star exploded into a gaseous state
Enveloping the phoenix of a new solar system
That would never even have a hint of the existence
Of this planet which keeps spinning tirelessly round and round and round.
